Lots of Comments

It has been less than 20 hours since I turned off Word Verification and turned on Comment Modification. In that time I have had 21 really meaningful comments. Isn't it nice that so many blogger users would visit my blog and comment. The comments are so good I thought I should share them here on the main page:

    Yikes... 20 is alot. I'm trying this moderation feature myself and got eleven comment spams since then. I've also turned on email notification which means I've basically transformed comment spam into an email spam. I wonder if I can route them through SpamAssassin.

    I too was thinking that by using the email notification, I basically turned comment spam into email spam. Except instead of SpamAssasin, I was wondering how POPFile will deal with them.

    Normally both would have email headers to help classification, but these all come from blogger.com so that won't work. And many of the spam comments I have seen today are very well written to appear legitimate. Many legit comments will have links in them. So I don't really think either will do well. SA may have an advantage if the URL is in a blacklist it uses, but web spammers don't often cross over to email spam. Both will be able to handle repeat spammers though, which apparently is a problem, just look at Texas Seo Expert.

    I wish there was a way to whitelist certain blogger users for comments. Currently the only way to do anything like that is to add the person as a team member of the blog.

    Since I posted, I have had 10 more comments, only 2 were legitimate. I am certainly learning about comment spammers though. They were never a large part of what I dealt with until now.

    I suspect the reason I have got so many more than you is my blog is bigger so more posts to spam. And I have tons of spammy keywords all over my blog to act as a honey pot.

    all of spammers spams in automated mode, their bases includes over 10-30k guestbooks average, over 30k blogs, wikies, refspam blogs, trackback blogs, comments blogs and etc...
    Server side scripts spamms on cron every time then new doorway resides on a freehost or sandbox free domain, and arrives to unspammed urls in mysql database, then spam machine starts to work :)
    it's simple - only audio captchas can stop this.. any captchas is breakable.
