chongqing Milestone
Friday we reached a milestone in chongqing history. A new Chinese spammer was stupid enough to actually spam our chongqed wiki. Thats pretty stupid, but guess where he put his spam, on the SpamReport page. Since he was nice enough to log in, I made him a user page.
Another example of how dumb he was, his Chinese keywords were not entered correctly and are all just question marks. We don't know if our wiki supports Chinese characters correctly, but it does display something. It doesn't convert them all to question marks so I don't know how he accomplished that. That kind of makes it hard to chongq him. But we still have his URLs.
One thing this spammer did that wasn't too dumb was search for www.emmss .com. The original Mr. Chongqing's spam is so prevelant even other wiki spammers notice him. That would be a good way to find spammable pages if your a lazy spammer. Its also a good way to find spammers that need chongqing.
I think its nice that spammers are now helping chongq themselves. It saves us the trouble of looking for them. Manni and I have been eagerly awaiting this day.
Well, here are his spammy domains:

PF Wiki Passworded
Well, the POPFile wiki has fallen victim to another spammer even though non white listed URLs of any form will not display. This one did some actual damage. It was the last straw for POPFile's creator and now the wiki is passworded. Passwording a wiki really sucks. This one is used for documenting POPFile so it is not unreasonable to lock it, but it will likely prevent a number of people from ever contributing their knowledge no matter how easy it is to get a password. Other more general purpose wikis with a real wiki community would be really hurt if they were passworded. At least here it is only documentation.
The spammer was of course from China. His URL is vod-solutions.com and he thinks he is "Your Ultimate video on demand solutions". He has been chongqed.
If you go to this spammer's site you will discover how dumb they really are. They have no clue how to build a website. Their front page body is done in Flash. Their menu system sucks. Most of their other pages don't even exist. Their website feels like its being Slashdotted its so slow, that really convinces me they are "Your Ultimate video on demand solutions". With the blazing speed of their website two snails could have a very productive video conference.
Their about us page (one of the few that actually works) says:
More evidince of how stupid they are, they spammed an anti-blogspam post:

Street Spam Fan
I found a lot of great links over at SpamLinks.net. One of them was spammers.chongqed.org ;-)
I can't possibly list all of them, thats what their site is for anyway. They seem to be mostly into email spam (that makes sense since its the biggest spam problem on the net), but they also have links for bunches of other kinds of spam (webspam, telemarketers, postal spam, cell phone spam, IM spam, fax spam, etc.).
The one I found most interesting was on street spam. The site is the Citizens Against Ugly Street Spam. To see what they mean by street spam check out their What is Street Spam page. I have not seen that amount of street spam in one spot around here, but it is around.
What makes it so interesting to me (other than they are also Texans) is that they also have a "fan" site just like we do, Street Spammers Against Ugly Citizens. The spammers even put up pictures of the antispammers just like has happened to Manni on multiple occasions.

A Busy Spammer
Just a few URLs left by 60.25.119.199 in two shots on a wiki I frequent. They are "very hot website" according to the spammer. I thought they make a pretty good list of spam sites instead so here they are:

IE's Odd Color Parsing
Have you ever wondered what <font color="6db6ec49efd278cd0bc92d1e5e072d68"> looks like?
This post is more for the email antispammers, but that hasn't stopped me before. Our friend Sam has done some research into how odd color definitions work in IE and therefore Outlook. POPFile has added support for this strangeness, calling it Flex Hex, in its upcomming release. I don't know if other email filters even try to handle colors the way POPFile does, but if they do, Sam's information is important since spammers are already doing it. Sam's research is here.
Its sad that Mozilla does almost exactly the same thing. I guess its good to render pages the same as the competition, but is it really a benefit in this case? Obviously they weren't thinking of spammers using it against spam filters.
